SEF Grant Criteria
SEF awards grants for innovative and creative programs that enhance, but do not duplicate, the standard public school curriculum, and that would not otherwise be funded through the traditional school budget.
Successful grant proposals will encourage collaborative efforts among teachers, administrators, parents and community organizations. Priority consideration is given to proposals that:
- demonstrate innovation
- invite cooperative learning
- have a broad impact on the school system, and
- support the goals of the Southborough and Northborough-Southborough Regional School Districts.
Grant applications are available each year and can be found in any of the town’s public schools. Any teacher, administrator, parent or member of the community may apply for a grant.

Grant Process
SEF accepts GRANT APPLICATIONS through the April 11, 2012 due date. A committee consisting of the school principal, teacher, parent, and a board member review grant requests before being reviewed by the SEF Board of Directors. Grants must meet the grant criteria specified in the SEF by-laws in order to be eligible for funding. All eligible grants are voted on by the SEF Board of Directors to determine which ones will be funded and for what amounts. Full grants can be of any dollar amount, and must adhere to the grant schedule above. Mini-grants are $500 or less, and a MINI-GRANT APPLICATION may be submitted at any time. All grants may be delivered to SEF via a public school principal, the Northborough-Southborough District office, or directly to SEF at PO Box 365, Southborough, MA 01772.
Writers of grants that are approved by the SEF Board of Directors are notified by SEF, and are invited to our annual awards breakfast. Recipients obtain grant funding through a reimbursement form that can be submitted prior to, or after program components are purchased. The SEF Treasurer can provide details on this process. Once the grant program is implemented, grant recipients are required to complete a GRANT EVALUATION FORM. The information provided to SEF on this form allows SEF to evaluate the relative educational success of the program.
